I had a chance once, but something told me to run
That the wind past my ears was better than years of silent contentment

Maybe you were wrong and this wild goose chase has become a beltway boondoggle
Full of politics and intrigue and needing it's scapegoat

"I'll fall on the sword" I find my self saying out loud to them, lips zipped from the inside
And with that the matter is closed; dot the T's and cross your heart and hope to die

Don't bother, it's not worth the energy to protest
If it wasn't me it would have been someone else

I had a chance once, a chance for a wild run on a road well worn
But this road is better because no one knows where it leads
